Books Books Books

I got stacks of books lying around the house that I got as presents from the holidays and my birthday. I haven't had the chance to put them away as I've ran out of space in the bookshelves. A recurring problem in the apartment: where to put these new books. I fear getting rid of older ones is out of the question, so the remedy is to stack them around or move stuff from one place to another. Keeping track of what I have is not a problem since I remember where every single book is in the house. Mostly. In the meantime I have my virtual library at aNobii.  Someday I will have that library.

Mission Escapade

During my undergrad days (at CCA), the Mission District was the place to go. Being a stone's throw (a 5- minute drive and another 25 to find parking!) from Potrero Hill, the Mission was pretty much the only place to go for anything. It has been a long time since I have been by the Mission District. Although I do live in the city, I haven't gotten back much after school. After today, I might make the trip more often.

The initial motive for going was to visit Needles & Pens, a tiny art store specializing in 'zines and DIY crafts. The Mission is one of the more lively areas of San Francisco and a great area for enjoying street art. With wayleftcoast's birthday coming up, we decided to spend the holiday down Mission. As with anything in the area, it was only fair to start the day with a burrito sojourn at Taqueria Cancun.

Taqueria Cancun has been an institution on Mission for as long as I can remember. I had spent countless late-night dinners here with schoolmates in-between finishing up projects while in school.  The burritos here are legendary. I had one of their superburritos and wayleftcoast had their mojado. On the way to N&P, we checked out a few stuff on the streets:

Information on Clarion Alley can be found here:

After checking out Clarion Alley, we wasted time looking at overpriced (so ridiculous! mid-century modern crap that has seen better days) furniture stores in Valencia Street. Dropped by Adobe Books Backroom Gallery http://adobebooksbackroomgallery.blogspot.com/.  On Needles & Pens http://www.needles-pens.com/, discovered and scored myself a couple of cool items:

The trip was so nice and the weather was a lot warmer in the Mission (I forgot about the microclimates of San Francisco). Overall, a fun day. On the way home, I tried to end the day by checking out Heist Gallery galleryheist.com/ on Geary. They had just taken down their show. I will have to write down a separate entry on Tendernob galleries here soon. Oh well, for now here's a photo of their current and previous billboards on Leavenworth:

Street Art: Os Gemeos

Selected works by Os Gemeos from around the world.
The last one is here in San Francisco on Market Street and 6th Street.

We need more of these in San Francisco instead of billboards.
